CEC Releases Statistical Data for the First Half of the Year: the Scale Ratio of Wind Power under Construction Increases Greatly

The scale ratio of the wind power under construction increases greatly in the first half of 2015 The CEC Electric Power Engineering Quality Supervision Station finished statistical data work for the national electric power projects under construction in the first half of 2015. The data suggests that as of May 31, 2015, the overall scale of national electric power projects under construction is 170 million kilowatt, wherein wind power is 19 million kilowatt, 5 percentage points higher on a year-on-year basis reaching 11%. As to the power grid, the capacity for AC substation over 750 kv and the electric transmission line scale has increased greatly compared with last year in scale and proportion.

The scope of statistics has been approved by national energy departments of various levels, including all the projects that were registered at electric power quality supervising agencies and that have started construction and is under construction at the current stage.

As to the power supply, the overall scale of national generation projects under construction is 172,655.9 MW for the first half of 2015, and the data does not include projects of violation and those have not applied for quality supervision.

It can be concluded from the data above that among the national power construction projects in China, the traditional thermal power projects remain the ones with the biggest scale whose total scale under construction is 108,155 MV, scoring at a rate of 62.64% of the total power construction projects; however, compared with last year, the capacity under construction and its proportion has decreased slightly. The statistical data of thermal power capacity under construction is basically consistent with the that of current composition of installed electricity; with the updating of old machine sets, its construction scale is predicted to remain a comparatively high proportion.

Judging from the capacity of other power projects under construction, that of nuclear power and wind power is respectively 36,237.4 MW and 19,047 MW, next only to thermal power and ranked the second and the third of all power generation projects under construction. Compared with the last year, nuclear power has gone up by 2 percent and wind power has increased 5 percent in proportion. The changes in the scale under construction are closely related to our country’s rapid development in nuclear power, and the percentage of the nuclear power projects under construction is to go further up according to prediction.

In respect of the power grid, the national scale in power transmission and transformation projects over 110KV under construction is as follows: the total capacity of transformer substations is 324,926 MVA including 51,000 MVA of 1000kv AC UHV substation capacity, which is 15.7% of the overall capacity under construction. The capacity of 750kv AC transformation substation is 13,800 MVA, which is 4.25% of the overall capacity under construction. The capacity of transformation substation under 500kV and below is 260,126MVA which is 80.05% of the overall capacity under construction. The AC transmission line is 65,133.1km in length, including 4,828.6km of 1000kv AC UHV substation line, accounting for 7.41% of the overall line length under construction, 1,730.5km of the 750kv AC transformation line, accounting for 2.66% of the overall length under construction, 58,574km of the transformation line under 500kv, accounting for 89.93% of the overall length under construction. The DC transmission capacity under construction is 11,200 MVA, and the length of the DC transmission line is 2,859km.

Generally the scale of construction of the AC transmission substation projects with a capacity of 750kV and above is 64,800 MVA, accounting for 19.95% of the overall scale; that of the AC transmission line projects with a capacity of 750kV and above is 6,559.1km, accounting for 10.07% of the overall scale. On a year-on-year basis, there is a noticeable increase both in terms of scale and proportion.

From the perspective of the overall scale of AC transmission and transformation projects under construction, the projects of a capacity of 500kv and below remain on the top of all in terms of the scale, whose capacity ratio is more than 80% and line length ratio more than 90%. The detailed data of different voltage levels shows that the lower the voltage level is, the higher its scale proportion will be. And it is predicted that this overall pattern will not be changed fundamentally in the future.

Statistical data of the scale of DC transmission projects shows that the capacity of the DC transmission projects under construction has decreased greatly compared with that of last year, but the length of the transmission line has increased by nearly 50%, which shows that the national DC transmission distance is getting increasingly longer, and the engineering construction will become more and more difficult.
